Hi friends. I’m Mona from Far From The Farm, and today I’m sharing a small batch homemade taco seasoning that replaces one standard 1 oz store bought packet.

Taco nights have been on heavy rotation in our house lately. They are quick, budget friendly, filling, and always a win with the family. But somehow those little seasoning packets are always the first thing to run out.

This recipe was born out of real life frustration on busy nights when dinner needs to happen and the pantry lets you down.

This small batch taco seasoning uses simple pantry spices and gives the same flavour and thickness people expect from the packets. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated, just practical and reliable.

It is designed to be made fresh when you need it. No big jars. No long prep. Just enough for one meal.

This seasoning works perfectly with ground beef, turkey, or chicken. Simply brown your meat, add the seasoning, pour in a little water, and let it simmer until thick and flavourful.

Ingredients

Makes the equivalent of one 1 oz taco seasoning packet.

• 1 tbsp dark chili powder
• 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp black pepper
• 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
• 1/4 tsp garlic powder
• 1/4 tsp onion powder
• 1/4 tsp dried oregano
• Pinch cayenne pepper
• 1 tsp cornstarch

How to Use

Add the seasoning to cooked ground meat.
Pour in 1/4 to 1/2 cup water.
Simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.

Use for tacos, taco bowls, nachos, or anything taco inspired.
