2️⃣ MOTION DEBATED
The substantive business before the House was the motion:
“This House believes that Ghana’s anti-corruption fight is weakening despite the existence of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.”
The motion was extensively debated, with Honourable Members advancing varied and well-reasoned arguments addressing:
The operational independence and effectiveness of the Office of the Special Prosecutor;
Institutional and political challenges affecting anti-corruption enforcement;
Public confidence in accountability mechanisms; and
Broader governance and systemic reforms required to strengthen the anti-corruption framework.
Upon the conclusion of the debate, the Question was put.
A voice vote was first taken, and the Nays appeared to have it.
The decision was challenged by the Majority, and in accordance with parliamentary procedure, the Speaker ordered a headcount division of the House.
Following the division, the results were as follows: Ayes: 12, Nays: 5.
Accordingly, the Ayes had it, and the motion was carried.
