Her crisp soprano voice was laying the groundwork for an entire generation of contemporary R&B, pop, and hip-hop artists and at 22, she had already broken several records as perhaps the most successful female artist of her time. But while riding on the wave of success, Aaliyah got into a fatal crash that would take her life and plunge Detroit and the world into deep-seated grief.
