Notes:
1985 Oscar meyer was looking for a new way to sell bologna and other lunch meats. This is when a group of people, one in particular is a man by the name of bob drane who decided to set up focus groups to do more research on focus groups with american mothers.
This research found that most american working moms were stressed for time when it came to making breakfast and lunch for their kids before school.
Bob then came uo with an idea for a prepackaged meal that included the lunch meats oscar meyer was trying to push more of.
Over the next 3 years Bob decided that instead of bread, which would go bad very quickly that it be replaced with crackers and with the kraft merger in 1988, kraft cheese would be included with this package as well to give it a well rounded meal feel. The design of the package was to replicate a classic tv dinner style tray.
The name lunchables came from a long string of other possible names. The other names in the running were On-Trays, Crackerwiches, Mini Meals, Lunch Kits, Snackables, Square Meals, Walk Meals, Go-Packs, and Fun Mealz.
In 1988, lunchables were test marketed in Seattle washington where they caught on and sold well. Then by 1989 lunchables were sold nationwide in the united states.
And ever since then theres been at least over 50 variations of lunchables products, from mini pizzas, nachos, mozzarella sticks, grilled cheese sandwiches to chicken nuggets.
But the first lunchables product were the cracker stackers assortment
