Margrét Pála presents her ideas about educating young children, based on reinforcing each gender in specific areas. She asks: Are we betraying both girls and boys when the school system is based on the average needs of children instead of meeting each sex as it is? Are single-sex settings the right answer and what pitfalls do we need to watch out for?
Margrét Pála is an experienced teacher and principal at the kindergarten and elementary school level, with about 30 years of management experience. She is the author of the so-called Hjalli-model, an ideology with plenty of new ideas about kindergarten and school work. She has also published books, about the Hjalli-model and educational matters. She has written articles for Icelandic and international magazines and hosted radio programmes on school issues and raising children.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
