"Dixie" (1859)
Written by Daniel Decatur Emmett
Assistant to the Music Producer was Jari Villanueva
Performed by Beck’s Philadelphia Brass Band
"Dixie" was written by an Ohioan in New York as a minstrel tune and was enjoyed by both the North and South during the American Civil War. The version performed in 'Gods and Generals' is the same as the one from 'Gettysburg' and comes from Squire's Cornet Band Olio No. 1 which was published in 1871, though it is likely that the arrangements found in this collection are from much earlier. The band shown on screen and overdubbed in post-production is Beck’s Philadelphia Brass Band.
