When I think "ambient, evolving music" I imagine a lot of randomness occurring - so in this, I set out to find numerous options for randomizing signal flow through my rack even in the very beginning. Setting up "sensible randomness" takes practice, so I wanted to get started right away. My choices came down to Ladik R-110 and S-090 as my first choices. These were purchased just before Marbles, but with the intent on randomizing the randonmess of my Random Sampler :-)
