Two weeks into the offseason, I wanted to keep building as much bedding, browse, and cover on the farm as possible, so I grabbed the chainsaw and got back to work. I focused on a south-facing slope near where I plan to hang a new stand next season.
I took a lot of trees down but struggled to get some of the larger ones to hinge the way I wanted. Even so, the goal was to add more structure and security to that area, and this is all part of learning what works best on this property.
I also spent time working the area just north of the big bottom plot, where I’m planning to place that stand. There’s still plenty of work left to do, but thankfully the offseason is long.
