Attendance Allowance, How Do I Apply and When Can I Claim it From?

Hello, we’re back with the Department for Work and Pensions (or DWP) for our second video on Attendance Allowance.
So can you tell me how do I apply for Attendance Allowance?

There are a few ways to apply.
You can download the claim form from gov.uk
You can find the claim form at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publica...
This can be filled in, printed and sent to:
Freepost DWP Attendance Allowance
You do not need a postcode or a stamp to send this.
If you cannot hear or speak on the phone, you can use Relay UK to request a claim form.
To do this, dial 18001 then 0800 731 0122
BSL users may be able to use the Video relay service
Go to gov.uk/attendance-allowance then How To Claim to find out if the Video relay service is available where you live
The helplines are open Monday to Friday, 08:00am to 6:00pm

When can I claim Attendance Allowance from?

You can claim Attendance Allowance if you have reached State Pension age and:
• You have a physical disability or a mental health condition.
• Your disability or health condition is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself and you have needed that help for at least 6 months, unless you claim under the special rules

Can Attendance Allowance be backdated?

It can be backdated to the date of your claim. This is usually the date your form is received in DWP or the date you contacted the enquiry line. You should aim to complete your application within 6 weeks of this date.
