When he reached the temple, the healer met him at the door, expression grave.
“Li Shen… Master Lena was transferred last night.”
Li Shen froze.
“Transferred? To where?”
“To the Jade Orchid Pavilion in Eastcliff.”
Li Shen’s breath caught. The Jade Orchid Pavilion was the most advanced healing sanctuary in the region — a place only nobles and sect leaders could afford.
“Who arranged it?”
The healer shook his head.
“No one knows. But the transfer was signed by a high-ranking elder.”
Before Li Shen could respond, a man in a black robe stepped forward. His hair was streaked with silver, his posture rigid with discipline.
He bowed deeply.
“Young master… you have suffered for many years.”
Li Shen’s eyes narrowed.
“Who are you?”
“I am Thom Ren, steward of the Ashen Vault. I served Elder Master Yunlong — and your father.”
Li Shen’s heart pounded.
“My father…? You forced my parents to flee. They died in exile. I became an orphan. Why now?”
Thom Ren’s voice trembled.
“When your father passed, Elder Master Yunlong was devastated. He searched for you for years. Now that you’ve returned, he wishes to restore what was lost.”
He handed Li Shen a phoenix token and a jade card.
“This token opens the Ashen Vault. The card holds ten billion silver — your living expenses.”
Li Shen stared at it, stunned.
“You think I’ll take this and forget the past?”
Thom Ren bowed lower.
“Your savior still needs two million for her treatment. Without it… she may not survive.”
Li Shen clenched his fists.
“You’re manipulating me.”
“I am honoring your father’s last wish.”
Li Shen walked to the toll office.
“I’m depositing two million.”
He swiped the jade card.
Entered the password — his birthdate.
The transaction succeeded instantly.
Later that night, he stood before the sealed gate of the Ashen Vault.
The phoenix token shimmered.
The ancient stone doors groaned open.
Inside, scrolls glowed with forbidden light — techniques sealed for decades, waiting for the rightful heir.
Li Shen whispered into the darkness:
“Mei Lian… I will never let anyone look down on you again.”
“I will make the entire Cloudveil Sect bow to you.”
Behind him, the lantern he carved earlier flickered to life — without flame.
