Chopin's preludes are short pieces, each conveying a specific idea or emotion. Chopin wrote them between 1835 and 1839, partly at Valldemossa, Mallorca, where he spent the winter of 1838–39 and where he had gone to escape the damp Paris weather.
This C minor Prelude has been called ‘La prière’ “The Prayer”, and that the chords of this Prelude sounded more like heavenly music than like sounds from this world’.
For most of his life, Chopin was in poor health. He died in Paris in 1849 at the age of 39.
