Every servicemen goes through so much to protect our lives and liberties that sometimes we forget that they need saving too. Support our heroes tweet this video #WarriorWednesday #PTSDAwareness
UPDATE 11/10/15 - We have been told by one editorial site that this video is too violent but we disagree - there is no blood, no death, no real gunfire, which is entirely different than "R" rated movies. Using actual photos of the front lines in Iraq is nothing more than a harsh reality that our soldiers have to face on a daily basis. Their danger is real. Their fear is real. By showing this reality it may seem violent to some but it is the truth nonetheless. We feel it is our job as journalists/documentarians not to sugarcoat but to educate and to exemplify why every service member should be given respect. This is what they face - for us.
ABOUT THE VIDEO:
PAWsitive Channel and Tender Loving Canines team up to bring this story of a true hero this Veterans Day.
Retired Major NC USAF Linda Stanley served over 20 years in the military – six years in the Army and 14 years in the Air Force as a nurse. Linda deployed in 2006 with the 32nd Medical Group to Balad, Iraq, where she was a trauma nurse and provided medical care to many severely injured service members. Linda saw the worst conditions imaginable and it was the “human side” of war that affected her most.
At work, she had a soldier’s grit but over time she developed PTSD. Her anxieties made it difficult for her to go out in the world and to sleep. When therapy wasn't enough, Linda was introduced to TLC, a non-profit that pairs service members with Service Dogs.
Willow is a yellow Labrador who had spent her entire life training to help people like Linda. In Willow, Linda found her hero. Finally, Linda was able to live again, smile again and find happiness again.
Today, Linda has turned her experiences with PTSD into a mission to help other fellow service members.
Special thanks to all our serving, injured or retired servicemen.
Special thanks to Tender Loving Canines.
