MARATHON AUF DEM 4. KONTINENT AFRIKA
Ein unvergesslicher Lauftag für uns

Schon lange wollte ich mit meiner Frau nach Ägypten reisen, vor allem in die Hauptstadt Kairo - wegen der tollen Geschichte und der beeindruckenden Sehenswürdigkeiten wie Pyramiden etc. Wir waren zweimal in Ägypten, um am Roten Meer zu baden.

Zum Glück gibt es auch einen tollen Marathon in Ägypten, in Luxor mit den weltberühmten Tempeln.

Der 1. Ägypten-Marathon fand 1995 in Kairo mit Start und Ziel an der Sphinx statt. Um die Bewohner von Gizeh und Kairo nicht durch den Verkehr (Autos, Esel und Kamele) zu stören, wurde der 2. Start und Ziel ist seither der Totentempel der Pharaonin Hatschesput, die Strecke führt vorbei an den Kolossen von Momnon, durch das Tal der Könige und kleine bunte Dörfer. Das ist bis heute so geblieben.

Wir waren begeistert und vor allem erstaunt über die gastfreundlichen Menschen.

Über den Marathonveranstalter buchten wir ein 2-Nächte-Package in einem noblen Hilton-Hotel - alles vom Feinsten organisiert und wir nahmen unsere Eltern und Schwiegermutter als Zuschauer mit. Für uns war es eine unvergessliche Laufreise, die wir wärmstens weiterempfehlen können.

Dazu haben wir angenehmes Laufwetter mit garantierten ca. 20 Grad. Da kann man nichts falsch machen.

Für mich ist dieser Marathon auf dem 4. Kontinent Afrika und somit meine erste afrikanische Finisher-Medaille.

Mit diesem Laufprogramm haben wir auch 3 Tage Aufenthalt in Kairo verbunden, wir haben es wirklich nicht bereut! Was für eine tolle Stadt Kairo, ehrlich gesagt...

MARATHON ON THE 4TH CONTINENT OF AFRICA
An unforgettable day of running for us

I have wanted to travel to Egypt with my wife for a long time, especially to the capital Cairo - because of the great history and the impressive sights such as pyramids etc. We went to Egypt twice to swim in the Red Sea.

Fortunately, there is also a great marathon in Egypt, in Luxor with the world-famous temples.

The 1st Egypt Marathon took place in 1995 in Cairo with the start and finish at the Sphinx. In order not to disturb the residents of Giza and Cairo with traffic (cars, donkeys and camels), the 2nd one was renamed the 1st Marathon. Since then, the start and finish has been the mortuary temple of the Pharaoh Hatshepsut, the route leads past the Colossi of Momnon, through the Valley of the Kings and small, colorful villages. It has remained that way to this day.

We were thrilled and, above all, amazed by the hospitable people.

We booked a 2-night package in a posh Hilton hotel through the marathon organizer - everything was organized to the highest standard and we took our parents and mother-in-law along as spectators. For us it was an unforgettable running trip that we can highly recommend.

We also had pleasant running weather with a guaranteed temperature of around 20 degrees. You can't go wrong with that.

For me, this marathon is on the 4th continent, Africa, and thus my first African finisher's medal.

We also combined this running program with a 3-day stay in Cairo, and we really didn't regret it! What a great city Cairo is, to be honest...
