Comedy film performers were the main roles played by Laurel and Hardy. A lot of their movies have songs in them, and several of them stand alone as musicals. Although they were frequently mistakenly credited to Marvin Hatley, Leroy Shield was the composer behind the majority of the Laurel and Hardy sound shorts.
Leroy Shield: 1893 - 1962.
Born in Minnesota, he was a film score and radio composer.
He worked part time for Hal Roach Studios composing many background themes.
Marvin Hatley: 1905 - 1986.
Born in Oklahoma, he was a film composer and musical director.
He is known for the Laurel and Hardy theme song ‘Dance of the Cuckoos’ also known as ‘Ku-Ku’.
Marvin worked for the Hal Roach Studios from 1929 to 1940.
