Classic Chocolate Cake Recipe (Soft & Moist)

Ingredients

Dry ingredients

1½ cups all-purpose flour (maida)

1 cup powdered sugar

¼ cup cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

1 pinch salt


Wet ingredients

2 eggs (at room temperature)

½ cup oil (vegetable or sunflower)

¾ cup milk

1 tsp vanilla essence

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180°C for 10 minutes. Grease and dust an 8-inch cake tin.


2. Sieve flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Keep aside.


3. In a bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until slightly light. Add oil, milk, and vanilla essence; mix well.


4. Add dry ingredients gradually to the wet mixture. Mix gently until smooth (do not overmix).


5. Pour batter into the prepared tin and tap lightly to remove air bubbles.


6. Bake at 180°C for 30–35 minutes. Check with a toothpick—it should come out clean.


7. Cool for 10 minutes, demould, and cool completely on a rack.

Simple Chocolate Glaze (Optional)

½ cup fresh cream

¼ cup chopped dark chocolate


Heat cream until warm, add chocolate, stir till smooth, and pour over the cooled cake.

Eggless Option

Replace 2 eggs with ½ cup thick curd (dahi)

Add 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice to the milk

Rest the batter for 5 minutes before baking
