At our clinic we offer Botox® treatments for facial wrinkles. We exclusively use type A Botulinum toxin produced by Allergan, which is the most well known product for aesthetic treatment of facial wrinkles. All treatments are administered by Dr. David Jack, a GMC registered doctor who is experienced in aesthetic medicine.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® is a refined protein which acts by relaxing the facial musculature causing the wrinkles that occur as the face ages. By injecting this directly into and around the muscles, the wrinkles are dissipated and over time the skin gains a more youthful smooth appearance.

Is it safe?

Botox® has been used in facial aesthetics for over 20 years now, having been introduced for this purpose By Drs. JD and JA Carruthers in Canada. It is a widely used and safe technique with minimal side effects. The most common side effect is bruising at the injection site which can easily be treated with arnica and cosmetic concealers and usually resolves within a few days.

What does the treatment involve?

The usual target areas for Botox® injections are the frown lines between the eyes (Glabellar lines), forehead wrinkles and crows feet (around the eyes), although several other areas in the face and neck are ameanable to treatment with Botox®. The technique of administration involves 5-8 small injections per area with a tiny insulin needle. Discomfort is usually brief and minimal and the overall treatment time is usually 10-15 minutes, making it an ideal lunchbreak treatment!

How long does it last?

The effects of Botox® are not immediate – it will usually take 3-7 days for any effect to be noticed, with a maximal effect at around 14 days post-treatment. The effect usually lasts between 3-6 months at which stage the treatment should be repeated. Patients often find that with repeat treatments the effects tend to last longer, increasing the amount of time between treatments.
