Passing out, or syncope, occurs due to a temporary loss of blood flow to the brain. It can happen when there is low blood pressure (hypotension), reducing the blood supply to the brain. Another cause is a slow heart rate (bradycardia), which decreases the amount of blood pumped to the brain. A combination of low blood pressure and slow heart rate can also lead to inadequate cerebral blood flow, causing syncope. Obstructed or kinked arteries in the neck can prevent sufficient blood from reaching the brain despite normal blood pressure, resulting in passing out. Positional problems, neck mobility issues, or whiplash injuries can contribute to the obstruction of blood flow to the brain and cause syncope
