This video honours the life and legacy of Ray Hewitt, who passed away peacefully this month at the remarkable age of 100. Ray, affectionately remembers his early days as an Ossie student, recalls a life that spanned more than a century and witnessed extraordinary moments in history. This tribute reflects on the values, experiences, and memories that shaped his long and meaningful journey.
Ray proudly served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, answering the call of duty with courage, humility, and resilience. His wartime service was a defining chapter of his life, carried with quiet dignity and pride. His recollections of captured U-Boats in Norway originally aired as part of the project's 'Witnesses to War' documentary stand testament to Ray's wartime service.
After demob from the Navy, Ray followed his love of photography, worked at Peglers Brass foundry.
At the heart of Ray’s life was his unwavering faith and profound love for his family. He treasured time spent with loved ones and leaves behind generations enriched by his wisdom, kindness, and example. This video celebrates a life well lived—rooted in service, Christian faith, and family—and remembers Ray Hewitt as a man whose legacy will continue to inspire.
