ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Students for Black Action (now known as the Black Student Union) began in 1968. Afro-American Studies (now known as Africana Studies) began in 1972.

PUBLIC FIGURES
Charles Winfrey “first met [future mayor Woodrow Stanley in 1969] at Mott College. He was the youngest in a group of brothers, mostly military veterans, who formed the Black Students Union (BSU) to impress upon the college’s administration to become more responsive to the needs of our community.”

BLACK HISTORY MONTH & MAJOR EVENTS
1978-1994. Then the Office of Educational Opportunity Initiatives was founded in 1995 and managed Black History Month at UM-Flint. Information in this video stops at 2018.
