Tried out some different stuff with this one. Mainly, I tried to keep the drums sounding organic, rather than processing the hell out of them. I thought it'd be cool to keep the snare pretty dark and I think it sounds cool.
For guitars, I actually did pretty much no editing. I did a few punch-ins, but I didn't time align anything. Normally I get kinda crazy about making everything perfect, but since it's a sludgy song, it made sense to keep it pretty raw. Except for the solo.
I recorded like 20 takes for the solo and did a little comping. Still no time aligning tho, it was really more for getting the absolute perfect bends.

I use a Canon M50 with a Sigma F/1.4 30mm lens. I recently got some new lights (Neewer something or other, idk) and did some stuff with 'em. I only turned up the brightness on them a little bit (maybe 15%), but it was enough for me to record at ISO 125 or 150. I personally think this is the c r i s p i e s t footage I've ever taken.

Honestly, the more time passes, the more I think that Meshuggah's last two records are probably their best. I'm really loving the sludgy, long riffs on Koloss and The Violent Sleep of Reason.
But yeah, I've been listening to this song for years, but I'd never really figured it out. No matter how many times I listened, I didn't understand what was going on. I spent a lot of time figuring it out last week and it was so fun (and frustrating). This honestly turned out to be one of the most enjoyable songs to play.
My favorite riffs are at 1:32 and 2:51. I can't believe how heavy these riffs are, it's insane.
The solo was something else, but I've already memorized the melody of it, all I had to do was put it on guitar. Took a lot of practice, but I think it's the best I've ever done on a Meshuggah solo!
