Event Description: The FDA approved Buprenorphine (BUP) in addiction treatment as safe and effective for opioid use disorder (OUD). BUP has unique chemistry, brain effects, side effects, and impact on behavior. We will review BUP’s pharmacology, clinical indication, formulations, federal law requirements, patient selection issues, practice guidelines, counseling recommendations, contraindications, adverse effects, abuse risks and considerations regarding treatment completion.
