A medical team in Russia has successfully completed open heart surgery while firefighters battled to contain a huge blaze burning in the hospital’s roof.
The fire broke out shortly after the surgery began, cutting electrical power to the building and the doctors continued the operation using headlamps and emergency fans to keep smoke out of the theatre.
More than 120 staff and patients were evacuated during the blaze and no one was injured.
