Description
Rui Macher Jhol is a classic Bengali fish curry made with fresh rui (rohu) fish, potatoes, and light spices. The fish pieces are lightly fried and then simmered in a thin, aromatic gravy flavored with turmeric, cumin, ginger, and green chillies. This comforting curry is not too spicy and tastes best when served hot with steamed rice.
Ingredients
Rui (Rohu) fish – 5–6 pieces
Potato – 1 large (cut into medium pieces)
Ginger paste – 1 tsp
Green chillies – 2 (slit)
Tomato 1 large size
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Red chilli powder – ½ tsp (optional)
Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Bay leaf – 1
Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
Mustard oil – 3–4 tbsp
poppy seeds
coriander seeds
black pepper 9-10
cinnamon
cardamom
Salt – to taste
Water – as required
Fresh coriander leaves – for garnish (optional)
