The durability of a key box’s paint is crucial for maintaining its appearance and longevity. To ensure top-notch quality, we conducted the Cross-Cut Test (ISO 2409 / ASTM D3359) to evaluate the adhesion strength of the coating!
What Is the Cross-Cut Test?
The Cross-Cut Test is an internationally recognized method for testing paint adhesion. It determines how well a coating adheres to metal or plastic surfaces by using a cutting and tape-pulling technique.
Test Procedure:
1️⃣ Use a cross-hatch cutter or knife to create a 6×6 or 11×11 grid on the painted surface, cutting through to the base material.
2️⃣ Apply high-adhesion tape (such as 3M 600 or TESA 4104) over the grid and press it down firmly.
3️⃣ Quickly pull off the tape and examine whether the coating peels off.
Test Results:
According to international standards, results are rated from 0 (best adhesion) to 5 (poor adhesion).
0 (Excellent): No peeling, indicating a strong bond.
5 (Poor): Large areas of paint removed, indicating weak adhesion.
Our key box performed exceptionally well, with minimal to no paint peeling, proving its durability! This ensures that the coating will stay intact, even with frequent use, keeping the product looking new and long-lasting.
