Le 14 février dernier, le Maxi Edmond de Rothschild était mis à l’eau à Lorient. Après plus de 36 mois de conception, dont 24 mois de construction, Gitana 18 a débuté sa vie maritime, accompagné d’un large public d’amoureux de course au large venus nombreux. Cette grande étape marque la fin d’un cycle et le début d’une grande histoire.

Avec ce nouveau maxi-trimaran révolutionnaire, pionnier d’une nouvelle génération de géants volants, Charles Caudrelier et les membres du Gitana Team affichent dès cette année un programme ambitieux : être fin prêt pour défendre leur titre sur la Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe. Et autant dire que compte tenu de la complexité du dernier-né des Gitana, la tâche s’annonce relevée ! Car dans huit mois exactement, le 1er novembre, la célèbre transatlantique en solitaire s’élancera de Saint-Malo.

Last February 14, the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild was launched in Lorient. After more than 36 months of design, including 24 months of construction, Gitana 18 began her life at sea, accompanied by a large crowd of offshore racing enthusiasts who had turned out in force. This major milestone marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of a great story.

With this new revolutionary maxi-trimaran — a pioneer of a new generation of flying giants — Charles Caudrelier and the members of the Gitana Team are setting an ambitious course for the year ahead: to be fully ready to defend their title at the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe. And given the complexity of the latest addition to the Gitana fleet, the challenge promises to be a demanding one. Exactly eight months from now, on November 1, the legendary single-handed transatlantic race will set sail from Saint-Malo.
