In this video, I show you how to replace the heater core in a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan without removing the dashboard! This surprisingly quick and easy job took about 20 minutes, and I walk you through every step to get it done with minimal tools and effort.
To start, I relieved pressure from the cooling system by removing the reservoir cap, then disconnected the heater core hoses at the firewall to drain excess coolant. From there, it was just a matter of removing a few interior panels and accessing the core directly from under the dash—right next to the accelerator pedal.
Steps Covered in This Video:
Drain coolant by disconnecting heater core lines at the firewall
Remove the inboard driver-side kick panel
Remove the heater core access panel (upper screw removed with a Husky P/N: 66604 90° screwdriver)
Loosen heater core hose clamps
Remove the HVAC floor air distribution tube
Separate and remove the old heater core
Modify the new heater core tube diameter slightly using a die grinder and red scotch brite
Reinstall everything in reverse

Pro Tips:
Lay a towel down before removing the heater core to catch any spilled coolant.
A 90° screwdriver (dog-bone style) helps with tight-access screws.
Be careful when modifying the new heater core tubes—only remove a small amount of material and polish clean.
