After over a month since my last upload, time to show the March 1994 build that was also found by Games That Weren't.
Here's the page: https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/2025/07/po...
WARNING: This proto fails to boot on Snes9x due to header detection problems, according to KungFuFurby.
Although this proto is two months earlier than the May build I've been documenting here, the March one includes plenty of differences alongside the different Porky sprite seen before:
The Sunsoft logos have some graphical glitches (notably the Aero mascot), some of them lacks animation for the Sunsoft word and they can't be skipped unless you press Select button (I figured out by accident later in the progress).
Title screen, options and intro sequence are absent here, but an unique screen is shown in this build, saying the current level and the following room you're about to enter (for instance, the first one is just the Level 1 Intro: The Haunted Woods - "Porky's House")
The first room of The Haunted Woods isn't present here, meaning the actual first room in this build is the following one.
Instead of four hearts by default, this build gives Porky two hearts - be careful because...
The enemies are completely different here (with the exception of the bat): skeletons, birds, the swing ball trap has spikes like the other build and this level even includes a difficult enemy which releases spikes on several directions.
Porky is a bit slippery when moving or stopping, his speed seems to be slightly faster, and the X button only allows to view up or down with faster speed here.
Early HUD, as well as the font for the score points.
The cake not only gives points but adds 15 cupcakes too! No idea why they scrapped the extra bonus later in the development.
Porky's idle animations are also different here.
The scenery/season will shift every time the game advances to the next room, you can reset the current room by losing a life or accessing the C.M.S Editor by pressing Select button - this code is always enabled and can be used in every room, unlike the May build that seems to open only during the Intro levels.
About the music: only two music songs normally plays in this game the main theme of the first level and a short version of the same music, in addiction about both songs being earlier versions of the known beta level 1 theme. Also the music normally resets every time.
Still speaking about this level, the room after the first spiral tree is drastically different than most rooms of The Haunted Woods, the fruit bowl weapon is located here and works as a temporary weapon this time - it lasts for almost 30 seconds, grab items (except checkpoints, although they are "invisible" in this build) and you can use it even in mid-air!
The access to the secret room before the first spiral tree is blocked for some reason, but that room is actually present too.
Sorry, but no boss battle this time. The second spiral tree room leads to the Level 2 Intro instead!
The second level is more less than 50% complete, with glitched graphics around the background, the following rooms as well as the secret ones, and there's an extra "mysterious well" that crashes the game because it doesn't work at all.
Speaking of that, the Maze room also fails to work so this level can't be beaten after all.
The bonus items are present in this build, but only the running minigame can be normally accessed.
This is the first part of the gameplay. For more footage, here's the other two videos:
