LESSON NOTES:
In this video I remove the fear surrounding transcribing chords and show you several ways to play chords by ear. Although there are 24 major / minor chords that exist, really there are just 6 chords which get used most of the time. When you line up every song in the same key, you notice that most music (90%) uses the same 6 chords.

Within the key of C major / A minor these chords are:
C maj - D min - E min - F maj - G maj - A min (and B diminished rarely gets used because most people prefer major / minor chords).

You can number these chords from either C major scale's perspective (C major = I, D minor = ii, E minor = iii, etc). Or you can number them from A minor scale's perspective (C major = III, D minor = iv, E minor = v, etc). But whichever scale you number from, they're the same 7 chords. So the minor scale's iv chord is the same exact chord as the major scale's ii chord - and so on.
