The highlight of our journey was definitely watching our brave Dorothy take the leap from a rope swing right next to a giant waterfall. This was one of those heart-stopping, breathtaking moments that we'll cherish forever. Seeing her soar through the mist with the waterfall roaring behind her—wow, just wow! Manilla and Cali were her biggest cheerleaders, and we all faced our fears together as a family. It’s moments like these that make us so grateful for this life of adventure.

But the rope swing was just the tip of the iceberg! Our time in Sri Lanka was packed with unforgettable experiences. We stayed at some amazing places, like the Wild Coast Lodge, where we were surrounded by wildlife and the ocean. We woke up each morning to the sounds of nature, and one day, we even had monkeys running across our tent! The kids were in awe, and so were we.

Speaking of wildlife, we had the wildest encounter with an elephant on the road during one of our safaris. Picture this: we’re in our tuk-tuks, exploring the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside, when a massive bull elephant decided he wasn’t too thrilled with our presence. He charged at us! Talk about an adrenaline rush—Garrett’s face said it all. But we stayed calm (mostly thanks to Manilla's cool head) and made it through safely. This was a reminder of just how close we were to nature in Sri Lanka, living side by side with these incredible creatures.

We also had the chance to experience one of Sri Lanka’s iconic train rides. If you’ve ever seen those pictures of people hanging out the doors of a train winding through lush green hills, that was us! It was like something out of a movie—slow-moving, peaceful, and absolutely stunning. The kids loved the adventure, and we got to see so much more of the country this way.

And of course, what’s a trip to Sri Lanka without some surfing? We spent our mornings catching waves at the Jetwing Surf resort. We even had a 5 a.m. dawn patrol surf session, with the kids taking on the waves while the rest of the world was just waking up. The contrast between the quiet, early morning surf and the lively, late-night scenes we passed on our way to the beach was hilarious and unforgettable.

After all the excitement, we made time for some much-needed relaxation by our private pool, but even that turned into an adventure when we spotted a giant snake nearby! Jess was the first to notice it, and let’s just say there were a few panicked moments before it slithered away. Sri Lanka kept us on our toes, that’s for sure!

This trip was full of firsts for us—our first time seeing a wild peacock, our first outdoor shower under the stars, and our first time navigating the wild roads of Sri Lanka with the kids. We are so incredibly grateful for every moment. Thank you to all the amazing people we met along the way, especially our incredible guide Hetty, who made this journey so special.
