It is considered to be one of the oldest banking systems in the world.

These collective granaries were used by Amazigh communities to protect valuables such as grains, olive oil, legal documents and jewelry.

Apart from this, they were also used as water tanks, grain warehouses, housing, prayer places and living space for guards.

Boards or tablets were used in the management of Igudar. The Agadir Aajarit tablet written in 1492 is considered to be the oldest tablet by researchers.

A secretary was also appointed for this work, whom they called "Lamin", who used to oversee this entire operation.

Apart from this, there was a committee called “Inflas”. This committee was made up of about ten representatives from different tribes.

These granaries were often built on a high or fortified place to protect them from theft and raids.

This system depended on collective trust and cooperation within the community. Such constructions were built on the top of a mountain. To protect a village or town from being looted by enemy tribes or armies, they would hide all their valuables here.

Igudar was designed with architectural security in mind, often with thick walls and large strong doors.
