I've been working on restoring and upgrading this old AST Advantage! computer from the early 90s for use as my DOS gaming machine.
It's got an integrated 486SX 33MHz, which is deactivated due to the DX2-66 Overdrive I installed.
It has a YD-380 1.2MB 5 1/4" disk drive, which seems to be a pull from an IBM PC-AT, as well as an Epson 1.4MB 3.5" floppy drive. The CD drive is broken, but I'll replace it eventually.
I have yet to install a sound card, but will be getting either an Sound Blaster AWE (32/64, whatever I can get the best deal on) or a Sound Blaster 16 (or compatible).
For now, the PC speaker works well enough. I even have a driver to enable it to work as a sound card, although it sounds very crusty and crunchy playing wav files through the tiny piezoelectric cylinder on the motherboard. A temporary fix.
All in all, an attractive little machine and an excellent gamer thus far. AST Research made some great computers back in the day.
