Before you book Barceló Maya… watch this series.
In this episode, I’m taking you through one of the most unexpected spots at the resort—a quiet walkway between the Colonial buildings that iguanas absolutely love. I was hesitant to pass at first, and we almost missed the second iguana hiding in plain sight.
If you're planning a trip to Barceló Maya or already miss its beaches, this series walks you through everything you can expect. Barceló Grand Palace includes six hotels, and depending on where you stay, you can access four, five, or all six. We stayed in Colonial, part of the group of four with Tropical, Caribe, and Beach. Palace gives you access to five, and Maya Riviera (adults-only) gives you access to all six.
The first five hotels are family-friendly, Maya Riviera is adults-only, and Palace is known for some of the best food. No matter where you stay, the beach is incredible—and yes, their fitness center is truly state-of-the-art.
Getting around the resort? You can walk everywhere or take the double-decker bus that loops every 15 minutes from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. It’s fast, fun, and the easiest way to explore other sections of Barceló Maya.
Check out my previous beach walk videos where I show the volleyball courts, water activities, best swimming spots, the pier, snorkeling areas, and even where you can swim with turtles. Bring your own snorkel gear or rent it free for one hour with a $20 deposit.
Water sports include jet skis, banana rides, scuba lessons, kayaking, paddleboards, and Hobie Cat sailing with a guide. Water shoes are helpful—the entrance can be rocky.
