DATA DEFINITIONS:
GDP Nominal:
Values are based on GDP in national currency converted to U.S. dollars using market exchange rates (yearly average). Expenditure-based GDP equals total final expenditures at purchasers’ prices, including exports (f.o.b.) minus imports (f.o.b.). [SNA 1993]
GDP PPP:
GDP measured using purchasing power parity (PPP) reflects differences in price levels across countries and is used to compare real economic size and living standards. PPP-based weights are constructed from primary sources such as the World Bank, OECD, and Penn World Tables and are used in IMF World Economic Outlook (WEO) aggregates.
GDP per Capita (Nominal):
GDP expressed in current U.S. dollars per person. Calculated by converting GDP into U.S. dollars and dividing by total population.
GDP per Capita (PPP):
GDP in PPP dollars per person, calculated by dividing PPP-adjusted GDP by total population. This measure better reflects average living standards and domestic purchasing power.
Population:
Total population includes all persons residing within a country, based on national census concepts and international standards. [UN Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses]
