One of the most common claims in Christian dialogue is that "Mormons believe their works save them."
That claim is wrong....and it reveals a serious misunderstanding of Latter-day Saint theology. Many creedal Christians genuinely do not understand what Latter-day Saints actually teach about grace, faith, obedience, and salvation. For decades (well, let's be real... hundreds of years), our beliefs have been simplified, caricatured, and misrepresented.
This conversation is a respectful, in-depth dialogue between a Protestant and Latter-day Saints about how we are saved - and what we really mean when we talk about faith.
The New Testament word for faith ("pistis") refers to covenantal loyalty or allegiance to Christ, especially within the Greco-Roman context. When Paul speaks of salvation by grace (charis) through faith (pistis), he is not describing mere intellectual assent, but covenantal faithfulness to Christ. THIS is precisely how Latter-day Saints understand salvation: we are saved by grace, through faith - a lived, covenantal allegiance to Jesus Christ.
If you care more about accuracy than inherited assumptions and truly want to understand Latter-day Saint soteriology (our doctrine of salvation), this conversation is for you! 😉
