Описание: THE LAST FAREWELL was recorded in Oct 1974 by the British folk singer ROGER WHITTAKER.
The story behind the song was that Roger once hosted a radio program in the UK and said that one of his ideas was to invite listeners to send their poems and lyrics to him and he would make a song out of them.
He received a million replies and so he did a song each week for 26 weeks.
Someone by the name of Ron Arthur Webster, a silversmith from Solihull, Birmingham, England sent Roger his poem entitled " The Last Farewell," and this song became one of the selections to appear on the radio program.
The song featured on Roger Whittaker's 1971 album "New World in the Morning " ( " A Special Kind of Man" in the US and Canada)
It is one of the fifty all-time singles to have sold 10 million or more copies worldwide.
The single reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, peaking at No19 in June 1975, the only single of Roger Whittaker's career to appear on the Hot 100.
It also made No1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart. It then peaked at No2 on the UK Singles Chart because no other than Rod Stewarts record " Sailing" kept it from reaching No1.
