This webinar is an introduction to the longer and more nuanced presentation of the Meta-Model or vision of the person found in the recently published book, A Catholic Christian Meta-Model of the Person: Integration with Psychology and Mental Health Practice. In this presentation, the three editors of the book introduce the Meta-Model as a framework for application within the psychological sciences and mental health practice. As a meta-model of the person, it integrates three wisdom traditions—theology, philosophy, and psychology. In the webinar, the three editors present the Meta-Model’s systematic, integrative, and non-reductionist vision of the person, marriage, family, and society, which is richer than any found in the three disciplines alone.
The editors (Paul C. Vitz, William J. Nordling, and Craig Steven Titus) describe the Meta-Model as a unifying framework for the integration of already-existing personality theories and therapeutic models. In addition, it enhances clinical practice and client care (assessment, diagnosis, case conceptualization, and treatment planning). Finally, the three editors explain how the Meta-Model assists mental health professionals to better understand how they can be faithful to their Christian identity as they serve all clients.
Earlier this year, the book received an Expanded Reason Award, given by the Vatican Foundation Benedict XVI/Joseph Ratzinger and Universidad Francisco Victoria Madrid.
