Loki visits Midgard on New Years Day in the year 1991 on a hunt for the man foretold in a prophecy. The "Son of Stark" ends up being a Mr. Anthony "Tony" Stark, a young and brilliant, but reckless engineer, who attended a friend's party. Under a guise, Loki meets Tony Stark and after much communication, they become friends, despite Loki's knowledge of the future.

Time passes and the two share secrets with each other such as life, family, and soon exchange knowledge of Tony's advance prototype AI JARVIS and Loki's origins and magic.

Loki then is hit by reality that he must tell his friend about the prophecy, but at the chance of coming clean, he instead confesses his attraction to Tony and the two make love that night.

Years later to the events prior to Iron Man, Tony is head of Stark Industries with the guidance of Pepper Potts, James Rhodes, and his mentor/godfather/traitor Obadiah Stane. Loki is still his lover, but is still haunted by the prophecy. Upon hearing that Tony must go to Afghanistan to show off a line of weapons, Loki uses this as a time to come clean.

Tony gets upset by the news, thinking Loki faked his love so he could get close to Tony to kill him. Loki reasons with him, but it is in vain and in the demigod's grief, he leaves back to Asgard where he is comforted by Thor and his friends. Upon his return, Loki has a vision of Tony and thinks him as dead after a bomb exploded and lodged shrapnel into him.

In reality, Tony doesn't die, but instead returns with the Arc Reactor in his chest and soon becomes Iron Man. Events of the two movies, Thor and Iron Man 1+2, take place and it ends with the fated drop from the Bifrost as Loki hears Tony's voice in his head.
