Cyprus re-elected to the IMO Council (Category C) for 2026–2027, during the elections at the 34th IMO Assembly, in London.
In an electoral process full of challenges, Cyprus was not only re-elected, but received more votes than the last elections, rising from 12th to 7th place among 26 candidate countries.
Grateful and honoured for the continued trust and support, of all the member states that supported Cyprus.
Cyprus has consistently played a positive and constructive role in supporting the Organization’s goals from its first election in 1987 and will continue contributing positively to the global maritime community.
Cyprus re-election enhances its position as an international maritime power in the decision-making fora.
Sincere thanks to all the delegation members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the High Commission of Cyprus to the UK and the Shipping Deputy Ministry, who supported Cyprus’ candidacy with tireless dedication and unwavering commitment.
