This film documents the journey of Tom, a truck driver for Norwalk Truck Lines Inc., on a transport job from Chicago, Illinois to Sandusky, Ohio. Through following his journey, the film highlights the importance of the trucking industry in America and the benefits, and potential challenges, of working as a truck driver. Tom is depicted as a model employee and truck driver who even stops to assist a broken-down car on the side of the road and, in doing so, properly demonstrates how to use the roadside emergency equipment in his truck. The film was produced by Encyclopaedia Britannica Films in collaboration with Paul R. Hanna from Stanford University and Hal Kopel with James McGinn as the Assistant Producer.
