Why do car guys pour cement inside their engines? Sounds insane, but it’s actually one of the oldest tricks in racing.
Engines come in two main block styles: open deck vs closed deck. Open deck engines have gaps around the cylinders for cooling, but those thin walls flex and crack under big boost. Closed deck designs are stronger, but not every engine has one.
That’s where block filling comes in. Racers pour a cement-like filler into the block, making it as strong as a closed deck. The downside? Cooling is reduced, so this trick is mostly used in drag racing where engines only run hard for a few seconds at a time.
This is why cement isn’t a meme — it’s a real performance hack.
