Arthur Wharton was a man of many talents. As well as playing as a goalkeeper, he also excelled at running, cycling, rugby and cricket. But his most significant achievement was being the first ever black footballer to play professionally, a huge breakthrough for those from ethnic minority backgrounds, and he serves as an inspiration to this day.
