Vibhu - “One who is different” - When applied to the Jeeva, it means one who is different from Jada/the world. Or, one who has different types of lives - born several times as different animals and plants due to his Karmas.
Krishna says the Jeeva cannot take the Paapa or Punya of the actions of someone else. But because their knowledge is covered by ignorance, they are deluded about the concepts of Karma.
Second interpretation: Krishna says the omnipresent Bhagavanta doesn’t have Punyas and Paapas despite being the one who makes everyone perform all actions. But because the knowledge of Jeevas is covered by ignorance, they are deluded about the concepts of Karma.
Jnyana being covered by Ajnyana is a common problem. People who have very little Jnyana are filled with arrogance. Words from Upanishad - Avidyaam Antare Vartamaanaah..... - Sitting within the fence of Ajnyana and falsely thinking of themselves as Jnyanis, wasting their lives with arrogance. They follow ignorant ones - "Andhenaiva Niyamaana Yathaandhaah" -Like a blind man being led by blind men.
5.16
Krishna says that Ajnyana is destroyed by Jnyana.
The Ajnyana being referred to here is the one about oneself and about Bhagavanta. This will be gone by Self-Realization (Aatma Saakshaatkaara) and God-Realization (Paramaatma Saakshaatkaara). This the meaning of Soham Saakshaatkaara (Sah - Him and Aham - Me). Realizing both is required to destroy Ajnyana.
No matter how much Ajnyana one has, Jnyana will burn it all. So one must kindle this fire of knowledge with listening/reading, and contemplation.
Krishna says this Jnyana is like the sun that will shine its light on all things and remove the darkness of Ajnyana completely. It will show Bhagavanta.
5.17
Krishna says - Fix your mind and intellect on Bhagavata. Mind can be fixed on Bhagavata with curiosity. Fixing intellect on Bhagavanta requires conviction. Then Bhagavanta will reside in your mind and intellect.
Offer your Aatma/Self/Jeeva itself to Him. Let Him be my master/owner/Swamy.
Have devotion/Bhakti (Nishta) in Him. This comes with Jnyana. Bhakti which comes from Jnyana is true Bhakti- without Jnyana, it's blind devotion.
Knowing that he is everything (Sarvasva), consider him the highest refuge - He is Paraayana. He is above all, including Brahmaadi Devatas.
Anecdote of a wealthy man who was not disappointed despite contracting elephantiasis.
Those who do this sort of Saadhane cleanse themselves of mental dirt and go to the world of no return.
