A Muslim woman has been sentenced to two years in prison in Indonesia after being convicted in blasphemy law.

33-year-old Lina Mukherjee was found guilty of “spreading information aimed at inciting hatred against religious individuals and specific groups” after she shared a video on short video app TikTok that showed her reciting an Islamic prayer before trying out pork while visiting the tourist island of Bali.

The Indonesian court has fined her for $16,245 in addition to her jail term. Pork is forbidden in Islam and eating it remains taboo among most Indonesian Muslims.

The video prompted a public complaint which sparked police investigations that led to Mukherjee being prosecuted.
