In simple words, Phishing is a type of cybersecurity attack in which malicious actors send messages or emails pretending to be from a reputable company or a trusted person or entity. Phishing messages manipulate or trick the user into doing things like downloading harmful software, clicking on malicious links, or disclosing private information like username and password.
With millions of phishing emails being sent out daily a few are bound to end up in your inbox. Here are a few tips on how to identify them and protect yourself.
1. Check for typos.
2. Check the domain name carefully.
3. Don’t share sensitive information.
4. Don’t fall for URGENCY!
5. Hover over the link but DO NOT CLICK on it.
6. Regularly check your accounts.
7. Keep your devices up to date.
8. Don’t open attachments from unknown sources.
