Always pass people on bicycles in the same manner as you would pass people riding horses.

This incident happened on Chapel Lane, Leicester UK. December 2025.
There was a third driver behind the Mercedes who was willing to yield and allow me to turn right. The driver of the Mercedes seemed to be in a rush and was unwilling to spare the few seconds required to drive safely.
As a result of my report to the police, the driver was notified that a complaint had been received regarding their driving. They were sent a still image from this video, and advisory information regarding giving consideration to cyclists, sharing the road and the Highway Code.

In order to improve driving standards on our roads, and save lives; it would be prudent for all drivers, including myself, to re-take their driving test every five years.
Hierarchy of Vulnerable Road Users:
Pedestrians
Cyclists/Horse Riders/Horse Drawn Vehicles
Motorcyclists
Cars/Taxis
Vans/Minibuses
Large Goods/Passenger Vehicles
Rule 163 of the Highway Code: (abridged)
Give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders and horse drawn vehicles at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car (see Rules 211 to 215).
As a guide:
• leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking cyclists at speeds of up to 30mph, and give them more space when overtaking at higher speeds
• you should wait behind the motorcyclist, cyclist, horse rider, horse drawn vehicle or pedestrian and not overtake if it is unsafe or not possible to meet these clearances
