Ships being used against their homeland isn't an uncommon thing. In the Age of Sail, it was quite common, actually. Ships were captured and used against their former nation all the time.
It is rather more rare for a ship to be sold to another nation, and then used against her builders. The case of Lützow (the Hipper-class one) is one such case. A cruiser sold to the Soviet Union at a time when Germany was paying lip service to being friendly with Russia. A cruiser that would only ever fire her guns in anger at German land forces.
Before, eventually, being relegated to stationary duties and the scrapyard.
