This video features the full Community-Engaged Research Lecture delivered by Moises Gonzales, recipient of the Community-Engaged Research Lecture (CERL) Award, presented during Community Engagement Week.
In this lecture, Gonzales explores querencia as a framework rooted in Indigenous and Hispano land grant communities of Northern New Mexico. He discusses reciprocity, co-production of knowledge, and community-engaged scholarship, drawing on decades of research, planning practice, and collaboration with acequia and land-based communities.
The presentation weaves together cultural landscape theory, social-ecological systems, Indigenous planning, and applied research to show how community knowledge and academic work can inform one another in meaningful, place-based ways.
This lecture honors Gonzales’ sustained contributions to community-engaged research and scholarship that centers land, water, culture, and reciprocal relationships.
