Zenkoji Temple is located in Nagano City, which is the capital of Nagano Prefecture in central Japan. The temple is situated in the heart of the city and is a significant historical and cultural landmark.
It is easily accessible from Nagano Station, about a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride. Zenkoji Temple is one of the oldest and most important Buddhist temples in Japan, known for its grand architecture and its connection to the ancient Buddhist tradition of the Pure Land sect.
HOW TO GO THERE FROM NAGANO STATION?
To reach Zenkoji Temple from Nagano Station, here are a couple of convenient options:
1. Walking (Approx. 15 minutes)
Direction: From Nagano Station's East Exit, head towards Chuo-dori Street, a wide, pedestrian-friendly street.
Follow this street straight, passing through the Nishi no Otera (West Temple) area.
Zenkoji Temple is at the end of the street, and you’ll see the main gate, Sanmon, marking the entrance to the temple.
2. Bus (Approx. 5-10 minutes)
Take a Nagano City Bus from the Nagano Station Bus Terminal (located just outside the station).
You can catch the #100, #101, or #102 buses, which directly go to Zenkoji.
The bus ride takes about 5-10 minutes, and you will get off at the Zenkoji Exit bus stop, which is very close to the temple.
Either option will take you to the temple in no time, with walking being the more scenic route!
