👉 Abraham was called by God at the age of 75 from a civilized and culturally rich society in Mesopotamia, but that society was filled with idol worship and practices not pleasing to God.
👉 God asked Abraham to come out—from his country, his father’s house, and his traditions.
👉 Abraham was like us. He had weaknesses: he lied, disobeyed God at times, and carried old habits and relationships with him, such as bringing Lot.
👉 Because Abraham did not fully obey God, conflicts arose, especially with Lot.
👉 When famine came, Abraham went to Egypt, lied, and instead of being a blessing, he brought suffering because he did not seek God’s will.
👉 God had called Abraham to be a missionary and a blessing to many generations, but walking in the old man delayed that calling.
👉 The things that helped Abraham put off the old man were God’s grace, prayer life, building altars, listening to God’s voice, and obedience.
👉 In the same way, if we continue in lies, disobedience, and old relationships that God asks us to forsake, our families, neighbours, and society will suffer.
👉 To put off the old man, we must obey God even when He asks us to leave people, places, possessions, or relationships that have become idols.
