Описание: The Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument in honour of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, whose presidency lasted from March 4th 1861 -- April 15 186, when he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while attending a performance at Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C. -http://www.travellinksdirectory.com/l... - The memorial is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. across from the Washington Monument. It was designed by architect Henry Bacon and was constructed between 1912 and 1922. The large sculpture of a seated Lincoln was created by Daniel Chester French and painter Jules Guerin designed the interior murals. The memorial also contains inscriptions of two famous speeches by Lincoln - The Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address. The memorial has also been the site of many famous speeches delivered by other influential figures, including Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, delivered on August 28, 1963 during the rally at the end of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It is fitting that Lincoln's memorial attracts this attention as he is widely regarded as the greatest president of all time.
